adrian curtis pucey

Nicknames: Adrian
Gender: Male
Age: 22
Date of Birth: 17th October, 1977
Hogwarts House: Slytherin
Years at Hogwarts: 1989-1996
Blood Status: Halfblood
Played-By: Tom Sturridge

History:
Born in the affluent home of pure-blood Laurence Pucey, but to the half-blooded Clara, Adrian was taught from an early age to play his cards wisely and to choose his friends carefully. His father was not involved in the Death Eater front in the first war, escaping with only minimal harassment to join the ranks of the Dark Lord thanks to holding a rather politically useless occupation of writing both historical and romantic fiction, although the latter is written under a penname. In these years, he published very little – but became rather prolific in the years after the Dark Lord’s downfall. Adrian’s paternal Uncle Edgar, on the other hand, formerly made his name as a barrister of Wizarding Law, frequently appearing before the Wizengamot to present cases of defense for suspected Death Eaters and frequently received threats, especially if cases did not go as planned. Adrian and his parents did not know that he was also a Death Eater, but there has always been a suspicion about his activity in the war. As such, they were not particularly surprised, though extremely disappointed to discover that he indeed was so shortly after the mass breakout from Azkaban in 1996.

It was by his Uncle Edgar that Adrian had two cousins, Eleanor (better known as Ella) and Graham. Alas, Graham died a Death Eater, fighting with his father at the final battle - and Edgar was imprisoned until his trial. Adrian never did get along with Graham, and for a long time was not sure how to feel about his death. Ella, however, is one of the very few people whom Adrian is protective of, and he worries about her constantly.

During Hogwarts, Adrian was a decent student – albeit more interested in Quidditch than he was in his studies, he still maintained above average grades. His acceptance onto the team was a simple affair. In his second year, Adrian was picked out for the starting line-up. He played nearly every game, with the exception of two matches: Gryffindor/Slytherin in the 1993-94 season and a Hufflepuff/Slytherin match in his second year.

Because he was so habitually well-mannered, spoke kindly enough (especially in comparison to dormmates Bletchley and Warrington) and had a personality people found easy to trust, Adrian tended to make a number of friends outside of his expected social circles. After getting to know him, one might not be so surprised to discover that Adrian prefered not to socialise so often with the boys on his team. However, those he counted as his closest were limited only to Ella, and Melinda Bobbin including a sparse one or two others.

He joined the Montrose Magpies' reserve team shortly after he left Hogwarts in 1996. His talent and experience on the Quidditch Pitch led him to being promoted to the starting team as part of their new line-up shortly after they fired their former Seeker, Alasdair Maddock, for his overtly eccentric manner of playing.

His involvement in the war was rather unexciting – for there was no involvement in the war for Adrian. He quite happily stayed neutral, and refused to bow to pressure to move from his fence sitting one way or another. He knew his Uncle was a Death Eater, and Edgar tried hard to push him into committing to the Dark Lord’s cause – but Adrian would not bow. He wanted nothing to do with a fight he neither believed in, nor would wholly affect him.

Although he was forced to announce his half-blood status (which probably shocked a few of his former schoolmates who would have otherwise assumed he was as pureblooded as they were, for he never said any different, nor tried to overcompensate), he was otherwise safe from any immediate harm.

On the night of the Battle of Hogwarts, Adrian was at his cousin Ella’s flat, enjoying a glass of wine, when the following morning, a representative from the Ministry of Magic arrived to inform Ella that her little brother, Graham (whom Adrian had always found it extremely difficult to like) had just been killed in Battle, fighting alongside his father, Edgar Pucey, with the Death Eaters.

His cousin could not deal. Her already dysfunctional family had been ripped apart by allegiances she did not like, nor believed in and to top it off, her mother was emotionally disowning her for being a “blood traitor” because she was dating a man who’s father was a Muggle. She sank into a depression, which he has been assisting her in battling.

Adrian has inherited two property investments thanks to his late paternal grandfather, and has, in the meantime, been accumulating more with the earnings he receives from his profession on the Montrose Magpies Quidditch Team.

Personality:
Adrian possesses an easy manner of speaking, well-bred manners and a very strong dislike for revealing information about himself. As he prefers rationality to violence, he is the most likely of his peers to prefer talking a matter over civilly than to hex or punch - though one would be wise to not be comfortable with provoking him, for he does hex, and when he does, it is often twice as painful.

For him, appearance is everything. He has been accused of vanity in the past - and though he is not narcissistic, he does take great pride in his appearance, in being well-behaved and speaking articulately. During his years on the Slytherin Quidditch team, he notably avoided making fouls or hexing opponents off the pitch, mostly because he thought it would have clashed with his otherwise squeaky clean, under the radar image.

The easiest mistake to make about Adrian is to assume that he is arrogant. Granted, he is confident and though in the past, tried very hard to look and remain indifferent to the world around him, he never has believed himself to be better than anyone else.

He is attentive and more accepting than one would believe upon first impression. Growing up in a home where his maternal grandfather was a textbook halfblood (pureblood father, muggleborn mother), he carries no blood elitism in his attitude, and refrains from discussing matters of blood elitism - unless asked directly, and even so looks for ways to evade.

Adrian follows the moral philosophy of utilitarianism most of the time, and he is also very good at looking the other way. He can be summed up ultimately as a complete diplomat.

Strengths:
Articulate, well-mannered, well-behaved, unassuming, attentive, organised, rational, diplomatic, dislikes offending people, patient, sympathetic, knows how to put people at ease, values poise and polish.

Weaknesses:
Values indifference, dislikes opening up, liable to procrastinate, quite snarky, vain, tends to sit on the fence, indecisive and takes a long time to make up his mind when he isn't, can be extremely hard to decipher his true feelings about a subject, tends to hold people at a distance.

Occupation: Chaser, Montrose Magpies

What does your character value the most?
Diplomacy. And propriety.

What does your character regret?
He regrets writing off his cousin, Graham. He feels almost responsible for having not tried to persuade the boy into a different direction. He knows that this is the one time that his hesitation and self-preservation has failed him dramatically, but still he struggles to step up and speak up when it really counts.

What is your character proud of?
Making the Montrose Magpies!

If you had to sum your character up into a stereotype, what would it be and why?
The Vain Diplomat, because he can be easily accused of being far too preoccupied with his appearance for it to be healthy, and his innate gift of diplomacy which he over-uses is the first thing people notice about Adrian during a conversation.

What do you believe your character will offer to the game?
I believe Adrian will bring a much needed voice of reason and balance to the game.
